"Well, I'm not really a ... serious... gamer..."
The idea of a "serious" or "real" gamer is incredibly toxic. Let's talk about where we got the idea that one "type" of gamer is more valuable than any other. Then, let's brainstorm ideas about how to support and validate each other when invalidating voices sneak into our conversations.

Torchbearer: The Dread Crypt of Skogenby
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

Just a few days past, some youths clearing a new field for planting managed to move a stubborn boulder only to reveal an ancient rune-covered dolmen that framed a narrow tunnel into the earth. They fled as quickly as their legs would carry them. But horror followed them, for now some dread thing haunts the village at night, slaying but leaving no marks save a look of terror.

The people of Skogenby are desperate. Perhaps you can help them appease the ancient evil that stalks them. Or perhaps the lure of treasure is stronger. Whatever your goal, the Dread Crypt of Skogenby awaits...

Torchbearer is a riff on the early model of fantasy roleplaying games. In it, you take on the role of a fortune-seeking adventurer. To earn that fortune, you must explore forlorn ruins, brave terrible monsters and retrieve forgotten treasures.
However, this game is not about being a hero. It is not about fighting for what you believe. This game is about exploration and survival. Because there are no jobs, no inheritance, no other opportunities for deadbeat adventurers like you. This life is your only hope to survive this world.

Apples to Infinity: In Support of Prompt Games
Prompt games have a venerable history in tabletop and party gaming, providing hours of entertainment through drawings, definitions, debates, and degeneracy. Through the years, they've experienced bursts of popularity that have brought new experiences, new trends, and new audiences to the game aisle. By looking at the mechanics and impact of popular titles (Fictionary, Apples, Cards, Dixit, etc.), this talk will explore prompt games holistically and argue for their position of esteem within the hobby.

SAGA Demos
On the 8th June 793AD the quiet monastery of Lindisfarne on the north-east coast of England was attacked and plundered by sea-born raiders - the Age of the Vikings had begun. For more than two centuries, the fury of the northmen was unleashed across the British Isles, inspiring awe and abject terror. War waged between Anglo-Saxons, Welsh, Vikings and Normans until, finally, the Normans achieved domination on top of Senlac Hill at the Battle of Hastings, 1066. This period of history was an age of endemic warfare that saw mighty warlords at the head of their warbands struggle for power, wealth and glory, writing their legends with steel and the blood for their enemies. Dark times that brought us the tales and deeds of legendary heroes like Harold Godwinson, William the Bastard or Ragnar Lothbrok. Saga is a game for model soldiers set in the Viking Age when strength and bravery were worth a thousand men. This rulebook contains all the necessary information you need to discover the innovative SAGA gaming system and within these pages you will find not only all the games rules but also a selection of scenarios to get you started plus descriptions of four of the factions involved in the wars of the Age if Vikings (Anglo-Danish, Vikings, Welsh and Normans - with more to be published). With plenty of illustrations, step-by-step examples and diagrams, learning the game mechanisms is simple and intuitive. Less than thirty models per side are needed to star playing, so get ready to immerse yourself in this age of heroes and write your own sage.

A Wilder West: Historical Gaming Made Inclusive
How do games and gamers treat RPGs set in historical eras that often included vast racial, gender, religious, and sexual inequalities? What about games based on "problematic" source material, such as racism in Lovecraft or Tolkien? This dialogue will examine writing RPG scenarios and adventures based in historical eras not known for inclusivity, and adapting sources like Lovecraft, while maintaining the balance of fun so important for RPGs.

H.E.A.D. Hunters

H.E.A.D. Hunters combines a tabletop game with a collectible toy. Designed by Ben Cichoski and Danny Mandel (Legendary Encounters: Aliens & Predator, World of Warcraft Trading Card Game), H.E.A.D. Hunters features a card-driven miniatures game where everything needed to play is stored inside the head of each toy.

In this tabletop game for two to four players, each player controls his or her very own Hero of Every Age & Dimension (H.E.A.D.) Hunter. Each 5.25" toy features its own deck of cards, battle platforms, measuring string and combat dice to attack and defend against other Hunters as it moves around the table for position and opportunity. When the game is over, all the components fit back inside the head while the toy sits patiently (and attractively) on your shelf, waiting for its next opponent.

The 2017 Washington State Diamonds Championship
Limited Capacity seats available

The 2017 Washington State Diamonds Championship

This Stronghold game by Mike Fitzgerald is a trick-taking card game in which players collect Diamonds - not cards bearing that suit, mind you, but rather actual "Diamond Crystals". What makes the game of Diamonds different from other trick-taking card games is that when you cannot follow suit you get a "Suit Action" based on what suit you do play. Suit Actions are also taken by the winner of each trick, as well as at the end of a full Round of play. Whoever has the most points in Diamond Crystals at the end of the game wins! The winner of this tournament will get a trophy, a copy of the game, plus a seat at the final round of the Northwest Regional Championship at Gamestorm (as well as a free badge to Gamestorm)!

A Dagger to the Back
Interparty conflict is a standard in most types of fiction when it comes to driving and supporting the plot – just look at the latest crop of super hero TV shows and movies, for example – yet it rarely works well in tabletop RPGs. Is it possible to have your characters at odds without it turning into a bloodbath or stopping the action dead? Or is it better just to avoid the issue altogether?

A group discussion looking at how you can create, sustain, and manage interparty conflict in your game and still keep all your players on speaking terms.

In a world of more and more sound, silence is becoming more valuable. Before and After Silence is about limitations and listening, and about doing almost nothing. It is non-verbal and uses silence as its starting point. It is about shifting the point of view from “what is” to “what is not”, about shifting the focus from “the sounds” to “the spaces between the sounds”, from “the actions” to what is “between the actions”, and to “what is not done”. Rather than playing characters, we examine how we look at ourselves and how different filters can change how we see ourselves and others. We ask you to explore that silence, and to see if you can shape it. Seek to use silence as the point of origin for your actions, or as the thing that surrounds your actions. You should attempt to exercise restraint and
to nothing until you have to let it go.

Car Wars 3-D Tournament - Qualifier 1 of 4

Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

Car Wars 3-D Tournament

He triggered the rear guns once more. A direct hit! The blue car skidded as the driver lost control – then flipped and caught fire. That would teach him not to tailgate . . .

Car Wars is the game of the freeways of the future, where the right of way goes to the biggest guns. Players build vehicles complete with weapons, armor, power plants, and more. Then they take them out on the desolate roads, or maybe the brightly lit arenas, to come home as "aces," or to crash and burn.

The battlefield for the tournament is a 3-D arena upscaled from the Classic game.

No experience is necessary to play, both rookie duelists and veteran aces are welcome. Designs will be provided.

This tournament features 4 qualifier rounds, starting at 9, 11:30, 2, and 4:30, with a maximum of 8 players per round. Play in as many or as few qualifier games as you'd like - they are standalone games. The top two finishers from each qualifier round earn a seat at the final at 7.

Finalists may bring their own Division 25 arena-legal design (with 50 point characters) if they wish or use one provided by the host.

The overall victor of the tournament will take home a trophy to commemorate the event!

Feng Shui 2: The Monkey King's Talisman
Limited Capacity filling up

Feng Shui 2, set in a mythical, ancient, China. It’s the last night of the Monkey King Festival in the Valley of the Fertile Winds. The Lantern Ritual has just begun. Floating, multi-colored lanterns begin to dot the Gentle River. The Beloved Priest relates the story of the Monkey King’s victory over the Snake Demon, right here in the Valley. The gentle winds in the Valley are said to be both the Monkey King’s laughter and his blessing; a gift to show his gratitude for the people who lit his way out of the Snake Demon’s dark trap. You have all come to Market Town at this time. Some of you may be townsfolk, or farmers from the valley, here for the festivities. Some of you may be just passing through and were fortunate to be here at this time. Yet one thing is certain: you are all heroes, and for your own melodramatic reasons, should something happen, the Valley of the Fertile Winds will be glad you were here.

Night's Black Agents: The Van Helsing Letter
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

Dracula isn’t a novel. It’s the heavily redacted after-action report of genuine events that took place in 1894, when British Intelligence attempted to recruit a vampire. That operation became Operation Edom; in the present day, Edom’s still around, trying to use vampires to win the War on Terror.

Now, the player characters are about to obtain a letter from Van Helsing to the director of the hospital where his son died, a letter that hints at failed attempt to destroy an ancient vampire. The clues in that century-old letter will lead the Agents to cross paths with modern-day minions of Dracula...

Night’s Black Agents, adapts the GUMSHOE engine to the propulsive paranoia of the spy thriller genre: not just James Bond, but also and especially films like Ronin and the Bour ne trilogy. You build agents worthy of such films; tough, resourceful, clever, deadly — in a word, badass. Then you send them to kill vampires.

Diversity in Dungeons & Dragons

with Jeremy Crawford from Wizards of the Coast

Roleplaying games offer the promise of walking in someone else’s shoes on the path of high adventure. In the fifth edition of Dungeons & Dragons, the diverse range of characters you can play and meet is celebrated in the game’s writing and art—characters of various ethnicities, gender identities, and sexualities—and the game is designed to appeal to players who are as diverse as its characters. Join Jeremy Crawford in a conversation about this diversity in D&D, as well as in other roleplaying games. Jeremy Crawford was the lead designer of the fifth edition Player’s Handbook, and he is the game’s lead rules developer and its managing editor.

Viticulture Essentials Edition
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

In Viticulture, the players find themselves in the roles of people in rustic, pre-modern Tuscany who have inherited meager vineyards. They have a few plots of land, an old crushpad, a tiny cellar, and three workers. They each have a dream of being the first to call their winery a true success. The players are in the position of determining how they want to allocate their workers throughout the year. Every season is different on a vineyard, so the workers have different tasks they can take care of in the summer and winter. There's competition over those tasks, and often the first worker to get to the job has an advantage over subsequent workers. Fortunately for the players, people love to visit wineries, and it just so happens that many of those visitors are willing to help out around the vineyard when they visit as long as you assign a worker to take care of them. Their visits (in the form of cards) are brief but can be very helpful. Using those workers and visitors, players can expand their vineyards by building structures, planting vines (vine cards), and filling wine orders (wine order cards). Players work towards the goal of running the most successful winery in Tuscany.

Car Wars 3-D Tournament - Qualifier 2 of 4

H.E.A.D. Hunters
Limited Capacity seats available

From Birdo to Mizhena: Transgender and Fantasy
Transgender characters and themes seem to be the hot, new, modern topic, but gender variance—under a variety of names—is as old as humanity. But with the recent furor over trans characters feeling "forced" in various popular titles, how can you be inclusive without making your transgender characters feel out-of-place or insensitive?

This panel is a short overview on trans history (and prehistory), followed by discussion on how recognize the niche and importance of gender variance in your fictional worlds while avoiding anachronistic language.

Limited Capacity seats available

The 2017 Washington State Letter Tycoon Championship

In the game, players take turns forming a word using a seven-card hand and a three-card community card pool, scoring money and stock rewards based on their word. Players may use their earned money to buy one letter "patent" in the word they make. In the future, whenever another player uses one of your owned letters on their turn, you earn money from the bank. Letters that are used less frequently have special abilities, increasing their power. When enough of the alphabet has been claimed, players finish the current turn, then score all money, stock and letter patents owned. Create the most valuable empire and you can become the letter tycoon! The winner of this tournament will get a trophy, a copy of the game, plus a seat at the final round of the Northwest Regional Championship at Gamestorm (as well as a free badge to Gamestorm)!

Genuine Representation: Respecting Cultural Identity
The topic of Cultural Appropriation and Minority Representation is a daunting subject to broach. But it is a worthy discussion to have. With people's identities at stake, emotions can run high and it is easy to get disheartened. This panel discusses what it means to be a writer in these times of heightened cultural awareness.

Creators walk a thin line, they have to balance their vision to the potential offense of others. But we don't have to sacrifice artistic freedom in the process. How do we represent culture genuinely? And how that is distinct from an "accurate" representation? We will discuss the answers to these questions, as well as talk about what approach Warding Circle took when developing Mysteries of the Yōkai as a group of non-Japanese creators.

H.E.A.D. Hunters
Limited Capacity seats available

Golden Sky Stories
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

Golden Sky Stories is a heartwarming role-playing game set in modern-day, rural Japan. You play henge (hen-geh), often child-like animals who can take human form and have a few mystic powers. Together you talk, play, and help people when they are troubled and need a little push. Golden Sky Stories has no combat, no dungeons, but it does have birds, rabbits, dogs, cats, raccoon dogs, and foxes helping people with their kindness and magic.

This delightful story game captures a fun, slice of life feeling that's both unexpected in role playing games, and unexpectedly entertaining. This session is intended for first-time players.

Feng Shui 2: Red Packet Rumble
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

A decorated police officer and member of the Special Duties Unit — Hong Kong’s elite paramilitary tactical force — is getting married to a wealthy young entertainment and media producer. They’re both high profile figures, and their families are equally high profile. This makes them ideal targets for some of Hong Kong’s Triads, who could see the opportunity to take out so many VIPs as too good to ignore.

In Feng Shui, the action movie roleplaying game, you play heroes of the Chi War, protecting humankind's destiny in a titanic struggle across space and time. Victory depends on your gravity-defying kung fu powers, your ancient magics, your post-apocalyptic survival instincts, or your plain old-fashioned trigger finger.

Being a Leader in Your Gaming Community
Leadership takes so many forms. This will be a space to share and exchange ideas on what forms of leadership people use in their gaming communities. The main goal of this time is to encourage people that are already leaders, but don't see themselves as such due to the dominance of "strong leaders" in society. Strong leaders are important and welcome, but will be asked to understand and engage in discussing less obvious forms of leadership. This will be a full room discussion guided by experienced panelists vs. panelists talking at people.
